In his recent address to the nation, President Obama called for stricter gun control to combat “domestic terrorism”. Like many liberals, Obama has shown support for Australian-style mandatory gun buy backs. Regardless of whether or not it would survive the political process, I think it’s worth mentioning what exactly they are advocating and how exactly millions of gun owners, including myself, would react. Perhaps a liberal will read this and realize the potential consequences of their conquest. (more…)
Earlier this week, a nine year old Chicago boy was lured into an alleyway and brutally shot to death. Tyshawn Lee was executed because of his father’s gang ties as part of an ongoing bloody turf war. Father Pierre Stokes – a convicted felon on parole – refuses to cooperate with police and claims he has dissolved gang ties; despite a recent arrest over a .45 caliber handgun that had no serial number.
One would think that Tyshawn’s execution would be the catalyst for another nationwide debate about gun laws. After all, bloodthirsty criminals walk the streets and execute children – the very people gun control advocates claim to protect. In this day and age, however, the focus has shifted from reality to narrative. (more…)
Neo-liberal rhetoric often laments the financial woes of average Americans. Whether it be savings, retirement, or income, they strongly believe that free market capitalism created various problems and that government largesse can fix it.
I usually view the issue from a strict economics perspective, but then I considered how my own financial situation might relate to other people. After digging up two-year old pay stubs, one thing stuck out: federal taxes. I am by no means a high income earner – especially two years ago. Despite that, however, I was losing thousands of dollars to the federal government. (more…)
Progressives often tout compulsory government programs as examples that America is already socialist. They are right, but they seem to lack an understanding of what their “success” entails. Occupy Democrats has taken the position of “if you don’t like it, don’t use it”. Speaking for myself, I would love to opt out of Social Security and Medicare among others.
Only one problem: I cannot. (more…)
For over a decade, government enforcers kidnapped people deemed invalid and held them at a black-site location without due process or civil rights. Over 7,000 people came through the facility and less than 1% ever saw an attorney. (more…)
Deputy Darren Goforth from Texas was filling his car with gas when a man walked up behind him, shot him in the back of the head, and emptied 15 rounds into his body. He was murdered cold blooded execution style.
I blame his murder on the recent fury of political rhetoric. The shooter had no apparent motive other than “kill a guy in uniform”. We may have problems with the current system of police, but that does not justify killing people. (more…)
Ahmed Mohamed was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to school. His crime? Building a “hoax bomb” and bringing it to school. Liberals have predictably blamed racism and Islamophobia. Of course, their rhetoric fits a politic narrative and deflects the story away from the root cause: failed government education. (more…)
Anti-market critics often and correctly voice concern about the growing relationship between government and big business. Unfortunately, since most of them come from the left, their remedy seems to be more government. The problem is not, however, rooted in market forces. (more…)
Women’s Equality Day filled my newsfeed with memes and articles about women’s rights. Facebook took the time to even proclaim how women “achieved” the right to vote. Of course, no one stopped to ask why they needed to “achieve” a right.
Let’s get one thing straight: you cannot “achieve” rights nor are they government permissions. They exist naturally. (more…)
